What is Horsetail

Battling Horsetail weed problems? Our experienced team is here to help, providing professional guidance and thorough eradication services.

In the UK, Horsetail has emerged as a significant challenge. Although not regulated, it annually inflicts harm on numerous people by damaging gardens, structures, and driveways with its aggressive growth.

Experts often liken Horsetail to the notorious Japanese knotweed, noting that some types of Horsetail demand careful management or total elimination to reduce their adverse effects.

What does Horsetail weed look like?

Horsetail (Equisetum spp.) is an ancient, distinctive plant, easily recognisable by its tall, slender, green stalks that resemble a horse’s tail, hence the name.

These jointed, segmented stalks, which can grow up to about 1-2 feet tall, are rough and ribbed, often featuring small, whorled branches at the segments, enhancing their resemblance to a bottle brush or a tail.

In the spring, horsetail may produce fertile, brownish or tan stems topped with cone-like structures that release spores, which die back after spore release, leaving behind the persistent green shoots.
